Hellboy


Today I watched Hellboy. It's a 2004 drama and fantasy movie directed by Guillermo del Toro. The character of the eponymous Hellboy, played by Ron Perlmon is interesting.

The film refers to the Nazi Germany, Hitler, and black magic kind of stuff. It's brilliant in its message that a man becomes a man not by origin, but by his choice. It's good.

Today I just watched the movie Hot Fuzz, directed by Edgar Wright. Simon Pegg is just awesome in the role of Nicholas Angel. It's a comedy. It shows a village which had the record of no murder for 20 years only to expose all the villagers committing murders together for the 'greater good'. The scenes of men and women firing and attacking with arms are really hilarious. A chain of murders is happening for trivial reasons. When Angel finds the link of the crimes, it turns out that they were murdering for some humourous, nonsense reasons. In a way it has, thus, parodied the crime thrillers and suspense stories. I think it hints at the message that there may be some deeper motifs behind a crime that a detective can never get at. However, on the whole, it's a fun to me. It's worth-watch.

Citizen Kane

"Citizen Kane" is a 1941 movie by Orson Welles. It is described as one of the greatest movies ever made in Hollywood as well as World cinema. It has begun various trends, like deep focus, and thus influenced many succeeding directors. The film deals with, in a pseudo-biographical manner, the life of a newspaper-magnet Charles Foster Kane. Born in poverty in Colorado, his mother handed him over to Mr Thatcher. Therefrom his journey to be a tycoon begins. The narrative of the film goes through various perspectives of different characters. Sometimes overlapping, the people associated with Kane's life opine regarding the life of the late Kane. He was trapped in his own world of ego and his Xanadu, the pleasure-dome surrounded by statues, draperies, curtains, furniture, marbles, symbolizes that world. He dies alone in that palace. The Uninvited

The 2009 film "The Uninvited" is a psychological horror film, directed by the Guard brothers, Charles Guard and Thomas Guard. It stars Emily Browning, Arielle Kebbel, Elizabeth Banks, and David Strathairn. The story brings forward to the danger of appearance versus reality. Anna, recently released from a mental asylum, convinces herself that her father's girlfriend, the nurse of the family Rachel has killed her invalid mother by burning to death. In fact, she herself unintentionally caused the death of both her mother and sister, Alex. She hallucinates that Alex is beside her and Rachel wants to kill both of them. However, it is a case of psychic disorder. She kills Rachel and cuts the body into pieces by a knife and throws it into a dustbin. The whole picture except the final conclusive scene is deceptive. It represents a postmodern film vouchsafing the idea of unreliable narrator. The entire story is shown through the eyes of Anna, and thus the truth is hidden. It show...
